Chapter 2: The Secret Richard Tried to Bury

Two weeks later…
Khloe finally opened her eyes.
The first thing she felt was pain.
The second thing she felt was fear.
Her hand immediately moved to her stomach.
“Harry…”
Harrison stood beside the hospital bed.
He had not slept properly in fourteen days.
“I’m here.”
Her eyes filled with tears.
“The baby?”
For a moment…
Harrison smiled.
A real smile.
“The baby is alive.”
Khloe closed her eyes.
A tear rolled down her cheek.
But the happiness lasted only seconds.
Because Harrison knew there was something else she needed to hear.
“Khloe…”
She looked at him.
“Richard didn’t just betray you.”
Her expression changed.
“What do you mean?”
Harrison opened a file.
“He was planning everything before you got pregnant.”
Inside were documents showing Richard’s hidden companies.
Money transfers.
Divorce plans.
A secret agreement with Vanessa.
“He wanted custody.”
Khloe stared at the papers.
“He wanted to take my baby?”
Harrison nodded.
“He believed he could make you look unstable because of your pregnancy complications.”
For several seconds, Khloe said nothing.
Then she whispered:
“I spent six years trying to give that man a family.”
Her voice cracked.
“And he was planning how to take mine away.”
Harrison looked down.
His heart broke for her.
But before he could answer…
The hospital television changed channels.
A breaking news report appeared.
“Billionaire businessman Richard Harrington accused of financial fraud and attempted family manipulation.”
Khloe looked at the screen.
Then at Harrison.
“You did this?”
Harrison shook his head.
“No.”
He closed the file.
“He did this.”
Meanwhile…
Richard sat inside his private office.
The empire he built was collapsing.
Investors were leaving.
Partners were disappearing.
His lawyers were terrified.
Then Vanessa walked in.
“You promised me everything.”
Richard looked exhausted.
“I’m trying to fix this.”
“No.”
Her voice became colder.
“You’re trying to save yourself.”
Richard stared at her.
For the first time, he saw who Vanessa really was.
Not the woman he thought loved him.
The woman who only loved winning.
“You pushed Khloe.”
Vanessa froze.
Richard continued.
“You didn’t lose control.”
Silence.
“You planned it.”
Vanessa slowly smiled.
“So what?”
Richard stepped back.
“What?”
She walked closer.
“You think I’m the only person who wanted Khloe gone?”
Richard’s face changed.
“What are you talking about?”
Vanessa leaned forward.
“Ask your father.”
And then she left.
That night…
Harrison received a phone call.
Unknown number.
He answered.
“Who is this?”
A deep voice replied.
“You’re looking in the wrong direction, Mr. Cole.”
Harrison became still.
“What do you want?”
“The fall was never about Vanessa.”
A pause.
“It was about the Harrington empire.”
The call ended.
Harrison looked at the courthouse documents on his desk.
Then he realized something.
May you like
Vanessa was not the mastermind.
She was only a piece.
