Chapter 2: The Son Who Betrayed His Family
Daniel’s face turned pale.
“That’s not what it looks like.”
Nobody answered.
Alexander continued watching the footage.
The video showed everything.
Daniel had stolen the necklace three days earlier.
He had planned to blame Maria because she was the easiest target.
A poor employee.
Someone nobody would defend.
Alexander looked at his grandson.
“You framed an innocent woman?”
Daniel swallowed.
“I was going to return it.”
Victoria immediately stepped forward.
“Alexander, please listen. He made a mistake.”
The old man looked at her.
“A mistake?”
His voice became colder.
“A mistake is forgetting a meeting.”
He pointed at the phone.
“This was a crime.”
Victoria’s face changed.
She realized her husband’s family name was more important to Alexander than protecting them.
Maria stood quietly in the corner.
She had tears in her eyes.
Not because she was scared anymore.
Because for the first time that night, someone believed her.
Alexander walked toward her.
“Maria.”
She lowered her head.
“Yes, sir?”
“I owe you an apology.”
The entire room watched.
The billionaire grandfather of the Whitmore family was apologizing to a maid.
“I should have asked for the truth before judging you.”
Maria shook her head.
“I only wanted someone to believe me.”
Alexander nodded.
“You deserved that from the beginning.”
Then he turned back toward Daniel.
“You have brought shame to this family.”
Daniel’s confidence disappeared.
“Grandfather…”
“No.”
Alexander raised his hand.
“You used your family name to destroy an innocent person.”
The police arrived twenty minutes later.
Daniel was arrested for theft and fraud.
But before leaving, he looked at Maria.
“I’m sorry.”
Maria looked at him.
A month earlier, those words would have meant nothing.
But now she understood something.
