Chapter 2 – The Truth She Was Never Told

Elizabeth took Daniel away from the wedding hall that night.
The expensive celebration continued without her.
For the first time in years, nothing else mattered.
Not the guests.
Not the cameras.
Not the business partners waiting for her.
Only the little boy sitting quietly in her mansion.
Daniel looked uncomfortable surrounded by luxury.
The giant room.
The expensive furniture.
The warm food on the table.
Everything felt like another world.
"You can eat," Elizabeth said softly.
Daniel looked at the plate.
"Really?"
Her heart broke at that simple question.
"Yes, Daniel. You don't have to ask permission to eat."
Slowly, he picked up the fork.
But he stopped.
"Did I do something wrong?"
Elizabeth looked confused.
"What do you mean?"
"People usually get angry when I take things."
Those words hurt more than anything.
A child should never have learned to fear kindness.
Elizabeth sat beside him.
"Who took care of you after your mother passed?"
Daniel lowered his eyes.
"My mom's friend."
"Where is she now?"
Daniel became quiet.
Then he pulled a small folded paper from his pocket.
"I was supposed to give this to you."
Elizabeth opened it carefully.
Inside was a letter.
The handwriting was familiar.
Anna's handwriting.
Elizabeth read the first line.
Elizabeth,
If you are reading this, then Daniel finally found you.
Her hands began shaking.
The letter explained everything.
Anna had never abandoned Daniel.
She had protected him.
Years ago, Elizabeth's father forced her to give up her baby because he believed the child would destroy Elizabeth's future.
Anna secretly took the baby away and raised him.
But when Anna became sick, she spent her final days trying to make sure Daniel found his real mother.
The last sentence broke Elizabeth completely.
"I am sorry I couldn't bring him back to you sooner. But I promised you I would protect him. I hope one day you can forgive me."
Elizabeth pressed the letter against her chest.
Tears slowly rolled down her face.
"I spent twenty years believing I lost you..."
Daniel looked at her carefully.
"Are you my mother?"
The question was quiet.
Almost afraid.
Elizabeth looked at the boy she had searched for in her dreams for years.
She reached out her hand.
"Yes."
Daniel didn't move.
"Are you sure?"
Elizabeth nodded.
"I would know my son anywhere."
For a moment, Daniel stayed frozen.
Then slowly...
He leaned forward.
And hugged her.
Elizabeth held him tightly.
The child she thought she lost forever had finally come home.
But outside the mansion gates...
Someone was watching.
May you like
Someone who knew the truth before Elizabeth did.
Someone who had spent years making sure Daniel never found her.
