Chapter 2: The Secret Behind the Little Boy

Victoria expected Noah to ask for money.

A reward.

Anything.

But he didn't.

That confused her.

Most people around her always wanted something.

A business deal.

A favor.

An opportunity.

But this little boy only wanted the coins he had lost.

Victoria picked them up herself.

One by one.

She placed them into Noah’s damaged paper cup.

"There are only twenty-three dollars," she said softly.

Noah nodded.

"I know."

"That’s not enough for much."

The boy smiled faintly.

"It’s enough for today."

Those words stayed in Victoria’s mind.

Enough for today.

She had spent thousands of dollars that morning without thinking.

A new handbag.

A designer dress.

A luxury lunch.

And this child was grateful for twenty-three dollars.

Victoria looked at Noah carefully.

"Where are your parents?"

The boy became quiet.

A painful silence.

"My mom died last winter."

Victoria’s expression changed.

"And your father?"

Noah looked away.

"He left before I was born."

Something about that answer broke through Victoria’s cold exterior.

She looked at Emma.

Then back at Noah.

A child who had nobody.

Yet still chose to save someone else.

Victoria took Noah to a nearby café.

For the first time in months, Noah sat at a real table.

He stared at the menu.

"You can order anything."

Noah looked nervous.

"Anything?"

Victoria nodded.

He thought carefully.

Then pointed.

"Can I get that chicken soup?"

Victoria smiled.

"Only soup?"

Noah shrugged.

"My mom used to make it."

The simple sentence hit her harder than any accusation.

While Noah ate, Victoria noticed something hanging from his neck.

An old broken necklace.

Attached to it was a small piece of paper.

"What is that?"

Noah touched it.

"My mom told me never to lose it."

Victoria carefully looked closer.

The handwriting was faded.

But one name was still visible.

Whitmore.

Her heart stopped.

"Where did you get that?"

Noah looked confused.

"My mom said the person who owns this name would know the truth."

Victoria’s hands became cold.

Because Whitmore was not just a family name.

It was her family name.

She immediately called her assistant.

"Find everything about Noah Carter."

Two hours later, the report arrived.

And the first line changed everything.

Noah Carter's mother was Emily Carter.

Victoria knew that name.

Emily had worked for her father twenty years ago.

Then disappeared.

But the next discovery was even more shocking.

A hidden DNA record showed something impossible.

Noah was connected to the Whitmore family.

Not as an employee’s child.

But as blood.

Victoria stared at the report.
