Chapter 2: The Truth Hidden For Seven Years

That night, Daniel refused to leave Lily.

Not because he trusted her completely.

But because something inside him told him she was the first person in years who had not lied to him.

They sat inside his mother’s old study.

A room that had remained locked since her death.

His father, Alexander, arrived shortly after hearing what happened.

He looked exhausted.

Older than Daniel remembered.

“Who is she?”

Alexander asked.

Daniel looked at Lily.

“She knew Mom.”

The billionaire father stared at the little girl.

“How?”

Lily lowered her eyes.

“Because your mother saved my life.”

The room became quiet.

Seven years earlier, Eleanor Whitmore had discovered that Victor Hale had been secretly transferring company money into hidden accounts.

She planned to expose him.

But before she could reveal the truth, her car crashed on a mountain road.

Everyone believed it was an accident.

Everyone except Lily.

Because Lily’s mother had worked as Eleanor’s housekeeper.

That night, after the crash, Eleanor had not died immediately.

She survived long enough to make one final decision.

She gave Lily’s mother evidence.

Documents.

Recordings.

Proof.

But Lily’s mother was threatened into silence.

And when she tried to run away with the evidence…

She was killed.

Lily was only one year old.

She spent years moving between shelters and orphanages.

Until she found the hidden message Eleanor had left behind.

A message meant for Daniel.

Alexander’s hands shook as he read the evidence.

“My wife knew…”

His voice broke.

“She knew everything.”

Daniel looked at his father.

“Why didn’t you investigate?”

Alexander looked away.

And Daniel understood.

Because his father had been grieving.

Because Victor had been the only person standing beside him.

Because sometimes the person closest to you was the person hiding the knife.

Suddenly, the study door opened.

Victor walked inside.

“You should have listened to me, Alexander.”

Daniel immediately moved his wheelchair between Victor and Lily.

Victor looked surprised.

“You’re protecting her?”

Daniel stared at him.

“No.”

He looked down at his own legs.

“I’m protecting the first person who believed I could stand.”

Victor smiled coldly.

“You still don’t understand.”

He pulled out a document.

“Your mother signed everything over before she died.”

Alexander grabbed it.

Then his face changed.

The signature.

The date.

The details.

It was fake.

“You forged this.”

Victor smiled.

“I did more than that.”

He stepped closer.

“I made everyone believe Eleanor was unstable before her death.”

Daniel’s hands tightened.

“You killed her.”

Victor didn’t answer.

But his silence was enough.

At that moment—

The study doors opened.

Police officers entered.

Behind them was a woman in her sixties.

Daniel recognized her.

His mother’s former assistant.

“I kept a copy,” she said.

Everyone turned.

“The night Eleanor died, she predicted Victor would destroy every piece of evidence.”

She looked at Daniel.

“She told me one day a little girl would return with the truth.”

Lily’s eyes filled with tears.

“She remembered me…”

The old woman smiled.

“She never forgot anyone she saved.”

Victor finally lost control.

He tried to escape.

But this time…

Nobody moved aside.

Because Daniel moved first.

Not with his legs.

May you like

With his courage.

And that was the moment Victor Hale realized he had lost.
