CHAPTER 2 — The Night by the Infinity Pool
The Hollywood Hills mansion was glowing under the moonlight.
Arthur was inside preparing a late dinner when he heard it.
A splash.
A scream.
A sound that froze his blood.
“LILY!”
He ran outside.
And the sight waiting for him destroyed every illusion he had.
His little girl was struggling in the cold water.
Her pink dress floating around her.
Her tiny hands desperately reaching for help.
Arthur jumped into the pool without hesitation.
Within seconds, he pulled her into his arms.
“Daddy…”
Lily cried softly.
“I told her I was scared…”
Arthur looked up.
Victoria stood beside the pool.
Not shocked.
Not frightened.
Just silent.
Arthur carried Lily out of the water.
His eyes locked with Victoria’s.
For the first time…
he saw fear in her eyes.
