Chapter 1: The Truth Behind the Marble Floor

Alexander Whitmore had faced angry investors, ruthless competitors, and business enemies who wanted to destroy everything he built.
But nothing had prepared him for the sight waiting inside his own home.
His six-year-old daughter, Lily, was kneeling on the cold marble floor, holding a mop twice the size of her small body.
For several seconds, Alexander couldn’t move.
He had imagined many things when he returned home early.
Lily running toward him.
Her tiny arms wrapping around his legs.
Her excited voice asking about the teddy bear he bought.
Not this.
Never this.
“Lily…”
His voice cracked when he finally spoke.
The little girl froze.
Slowly, she looked up.
Her eyes were red from crying.
But instead of running to him, she lowered her head.
“I’m sorry, Daddy.”
Those three words hurt him more than anything.
Alexander stepped forward immediately.
“Why are you apologizing?”
Lily’s fingers tightened around the mop.
“Because I spilled juice this morning.”
His eyebrows pulled together.
“Juice?”
She nodded.
“On the carpet.”
Alexander looked around the hallway.
The carpet was gone.
Only the expensive marble remained.
“What happened to the carpet?”
Lily didn’t answer.
She looked toward the woman standing behind him.
Victoria.
His second wife.
The woman who had entered his life two years after Lily’s mother passed away.
She was beautiful.
Elegant.
Perfect in front of everyone.
But right now, her face had lost all color.
Alexander slowly turned.
“Victoria.”
She forced a smile.
“It’s not what you think.”
He stared at her.
“Then explain.”
Victoria placed the wine glass down.
“She needs discipline, Alexander.”
His expression darkened.
“She’s six years old.”
“And that’s exactly why she needs to learn responsibility.”
Alexander looked back at Lily.
“Did she make you clean the entire hallway?”
The little girl hesitated.
That hesitation was enough.
Alexander’s heart sank.
“Lily. Look at Daddy.”
Slowly, she lifted her eyes.
“Did she tell you that you couldn’t eat until the floor was clean?”
A tear rolled down her cheek.
She whispered:
“She said good girls don’t make messes.”
The silence that followed felt heavier than the entire mansion.
Alexander looked at Victoria.
For the first time since their marriage, he didn’t see the woman he loved.
He saw someone who had made his daughter afraid inside her own home.
“Go upstairs, Lily.”
The girl looked uncertain.
“Am I in trouble?”
Alexander’s face broke.
“No, sweetheart.”
He walked toward her and gently removed the mop from her hands.
“You were never the problem.”
For the first time that evening, Lily let herself cry.
She stepped forward and hugged her father tightly.
Alexander closed his eyes.
And silently made a promise.
Nobody would ever make his daughter feel unwanted again.
That night, after Lily finally fell asleep, Alexander sat alone in his office.
On the desk was the security system report.
He had requested every camera recording from the mansion.
Because one question kept repeating in his mind.
If he had not come home early… how long would this have continued?
At midnight, the first footage appeared.
And Alexander’s blood ran cold.
It wasn’t only the cleaning.
May you like
It wasn’t only the dinner punishment.
Victoria had been doing this for months.
