Chapter 3 â The Recording That Destroyed Her

Daniel knew he needed more than suspicion.
He needed proof.
Real proof.
The kind nobody could explain away.
So he waited.
And waited.
Until Celeste finally made a mistake.
One night, Noah woke up crying.
âDadâŠâ
Daniel rushed into his room.
The boy was shaking.
âShe told me not to tell you.â
Daniel froze.
âWho?â
Noah looked toward the door.
âMom Celeste.â
Daniel sat beside him.
âWhat did she say?â
Noahâs eyes filled with tears.
âShe said if I keep saying my stomach hurts, doctors will think Iâm crazy.â
Daniel felt his heart break.
âBuddy⊠why didnât you tell me?â
Noah whispered:
âBecause she said you would leave too.â
That sentence destroyed something inside Daniel.
He hugged his son.
And for the first time in weeks, Noah finally felt safe.
The next morning, Daniel placed a small recorder in Noahâs room.
Not because he wanted to spy on his son.
Because he needed to protect him.
That evening, the recording captured everything.
Celesteâs real voice.
Cold.
Angry.
âYou need to stop crying every time your father comes home.â
Noahâs frightened voice answered:
âI want my dad.â
Then Celeste whispered:
âYour father doesnât know whatâs best for you.â
Daniel listened.
Again.
And again.
Every word cut deeper.
May you like
But it was enough.
He finally had the truth.
