CHAPTER 2 — The Fall of Andrew Whitmore

Within three days, Andrew’s empire became a battlefield.

Investors withdrew.

Partners disappeared.

Banks demanded repayment.

The same people who once surrounded him suddenly stopped answering his calls.

The mansion that once hosted celebrities and politicians became silent.

No parties.

No guests.

No laughter.

Only fear.

Andrew stood inside the empty ballroom where he had humiliated Mariana.

The broken glass table had been replaced.

But he still remembered that night.

Her expression.

Her calmness.

That terrifying smile.

For the first time, he realized something.

Mariana wasn’t shocked because she was weak.

She was calm because she already knew she had won.

Margaret refused to accept reality.

“This cannot happen,” she said.

“She was nobody.”

Andrew looked at his mother.

“No.”

His voice cracked.

“She was somebody.”

Margaret froze.

“She was the reason we became somebody.”

Brenda tried to escape.

She packed her bags and went to the airport.

But before she reached the gate, two investigators approached her.

“Ms. Brenda Collins?”

She turned.

“Yes?”

“You are being questioned regarding financial fraud and corporate information theft.”

Her face went white.

“What?”

The investigator showed her evidence.

Emails.

Secret payments.

Messages between her and Andrew.

Everything.

She had not only been his mistress.

She had helped manipulate company records.

That evening, Andrew went to Escalante Tower.

For the first time in his life…

He entered someone else’s building feeling powerless.

Mariana was waiting in the conference room.

She wore a simple black suit.

No expensive jewelry.

No designer dress.

No attempt to impress anyone.

Yet every person in the room stood when she entered.

Andrew stared.

“You knew.”

Mariana looked at him.

“I knew what?”

“That you were going to destroy me.”

She shook her head.

“No, Andrew.”

“I gave you a chance.”

“You could have apologized.”

“You could have admitted the truth.”

“But you chose humiliation.”

Andrew lowered his eyes.

“I loved you.”

Mariana looked disappointed.

“No.”

“You loved having access to me.”

“You loved my money.”

“You loved my protection.”

“But you never loved me.”

Andrew finally fell to his knees.

The same position he had demanded from her.

“Please.”

“Save the company.”

“Save my family.”

Mariana looked at him silently.

Years ago…

She would have forgiven him.

But the woman standing there was different.

“I will save innocent employees.”

May you like

“I will protect families who depend on their jobs.”

“But I will not save your pride.”
