Chapter 2: The Recordings They Never Wanted Found

Emily didn’t tell the story quickly.

She told it slowly.

Every memory.

Every moment.

The first time Mark pushed her during an argument.

The first time he apologized afterward.

The first time Diane told her:

“Men get angry. You just need to learn how to keep peace.”

The room listened.

Nobody interrupted.

Not even Mark.

Because every sentence removed another piece of the mask he had worn.

“I thought it would stop,” Emily whispered.

Her eyes filled with tears, but she refused to look away.

“I thought if I became a better wife, he would become a better husband.”

Robert’s expression changed.

Not anger.

Pain.

Because he realized his daughter had been suffering alone.

Then suddenly, Mark laughed.

A small laugh.

Almost desperate.

“You’re making me look like a monster.”

Emily looked at him.

“You did that yourself.”

The words were quiet.

But they destroyed his confidence.

Then Robert noticed something.

The blue gift box he had brought for Emily was still sitting untouched.

He opened it.

Inside was a small envelope.

“I found this when I was looking for your old wedding photos,” Robert said.

Emily frowned.

“What is it?”

Robert handed it to her.

Inside was a USB drive.

Her father looked at Diane.

“Your husband’s mother accidentally left this at my office three months ago.”

Diane’s face turned white.

Mark immediately stepped forward.

“Give me that.”

Robert moved the drive away.

“No.”

For the first time, Mark sounded afraid.

The laptop was connected.

Everyone watched.

A recording appeared.

The date was from two months earlier.

The camera angle showed Emily’s living room.

Mark and Diane were talking.

Emily covered her mouth.

Because she heard her own name.

“She won’t leave,” Mark said in the recording.

Diane answered:

“Then make her believe nobody will ever take her side.”

Emily felt cold.

The room disappeared around her.

They hadn’t just hurt her.

They had planned it.

Robert closed the laptop.

Nobody spoke.

Then he reached into his pocket and pulled out his phone.

“I’m calling someone.”

Mark swallowed.

“Who?”

May you like

Robert looked directly at him.

“The people who handle crimes.”
