Chapter 2: The Secret Behind Khloe Morgan

One week later, Tara Bennett walked out of the hospital.
Nobody knew.
Not Preston.
Not Khloe.
Not the media.
Only the doctor and the police knew the bride who was declared dead had survived.
Tara changed everything.
Her appearance.
Her location.
Her plans.
But she kept one thing.
Her name.
Because she wanted the people who tried to erase her to know one thing.
They failed.
The first person Tara confronted was not Preston.
It was Khloe.
She found her at a private restaurant.
Khloe looked shocked when Tara sat across from her.
The color disappeared from her face.
“Tara…”
Tara calmly placed the pearl bracelet on the table.
Khloe stopped breathing.
“You remember this?”
Khloe’s hands trembled.
“I thought you were dead.”
Tara smiled coldly.
“That was the plan, wasn’t it?”
Khloe stood quickly.
“You don’t understand.”
“No.”
Tara looked directly into her eyes.
“I understand everything.”
She placed a recording device on the table.
“I know you entered my bridal room.”
Khloe’s expression changed.
“I know you stole my bracelet.”
Silence.
“And I know you started the fire.”
Khloe laughed nervously.
“You have no proof.”
Tara leaned forward.
“I have something better.”
She pressed a button.
A voice played.
Khloe’s own voice.
Recorded from the hidden security system inside the bridal suite.
“Once Tara is gone, Preston will finally see who was always there for him.”
Khloe’s face turned white.
“You…”
“You destroyed my wedding.”
Tara stood.
“You tried to destroy my life.”
But Khloe had one final weapon.
She revealed the truth she had been hiding.
“Preston already knows.”
Tara froze.
“What?”
Khloe smiled.
“He knows the fire was suspicious.”
She stepped closer.
“And he knows I was near your room.”
“Then why hasn’t he told the police?”
Tara asked.
Khloe whispered:
“Because he thinks he owes me.”
Later that night, Preston finally discovered the truth.
The fire report.
The bracelet.
The security footage.
Everything.
His entire world collapsed.
He found Khloe.
“Why?”
Khloe cried.
“Because I loved you.”
“No.”
Preston shook his head.
“You loved winning.”
Khloe broke down.
“I was always there when Tara wasn’t.”
Preston looked at her with pain.
“Tara was there every time I needed someone.”
He walked away.
For the first time…
He chose Tara.
But he was too late.
When Preston arrived at Tara’s new apartment, the door was open.
Inside was a single letter.
His hands shook as he opened it.
Preston,
You spent years promising you would protect me.
But when the fire came, I learned promises mean nothing when choices are made.
I survived the flames.
But the woman who loved you didn’t.
She died that night.
Tara
Preston fell silent.
Because he realized something painful.
May you like
Tara was alive.
But the person she used to be was gone.
