Chapter 5: The Dinner Where Everyone Learned The Truth
The room was silent.
Daniel sat across from Emma.
Her mother sat beside him.
Claire looked nervous.
“I want to apologize,” Daniel said.
Emma smiled slightly.
“Before you apologize, there is something you should see.”
She placed a folder on the table.
Daniel opened it.
His smile disappeared.
Inside were copies of every transaction.
Every message.
Every secret agreement.
His face changed.
“Where did you get this?”
Emma looked at him calmly.
“The same place you got your lies.”
Silence.
Then Claire started crying.
“I didn’t know.”
Emma looked at her sister.
And for the first time, she believed her.
Claire had been used too.
Daniel stood up angrily.
“You can’t destroy everything because of a misunderstanding!”
Emma looked directly into his eyes.
“A misunderstanding is forgetting an appointment.”
