CHAPTER 2: The Secret Buried Beneath The Empire

The next morning, Emperor Cassian ordered an investigation.

Not because he cared about Lucius.

Not because he wanted justice.

But because he feared the truth.

The lion had become a symbol.

And symbols were dangerous.

A poor child had survived a death sentence.

Thousands had witnessed a miracle.

The emperor knew one thing:

If the people started believing that compassion was stronger than power…

his throne would begin to crumble.

“Find out who this boy is,” Cassian commanded.

“And destroy whatever connection exists between him and that animal.”

The guards searched every record in Rome.

But they found something unexpected.

Lucius did not appear in the empire’s official documents.

His family name had been erased.

His father’s identity had been removed from history.

It was as if someone powerful had tried to make them disappear.

Meanwhile, Marcus secretly searched the old underground tunnels beneath the Colosseum.

For years, he had hidden a secret.

A small wooden box belonging to a former soldier named Aurelius.

Lucius’s father.

Inside the box was an old letter.

A faded drawing.

And a symbol.

The same symbol carved into the lion’s collar.

Marcus’s hands trembled.

“The lion knew him…”

He whispered.

The truth was finally coming back.

Twenty years earlier, Aurelius was one of Rome’s greatest soldiers.

He was respected by the people.

Loved by his men.

But he discovered something terrible.

Emperor Cassian’s father had been stealing food from poor citizens and blaming them for crimes they never committed.

Aurelius tried to expose the corruption.

But the empire punished him.

He was declared a traitor.

His family was hunted.

And his loyal war lion, Nero, was taken away and turned into a weapon for the Colosseum.

Everyone believed Aurelius had died.

But before his final battle, he saved one thing:

His newborn son.

Lucius.

The lion had not forgotten.

Nero remembered the smell of Aurelius.

The voice.

The kindness.

And when he saw Lucius in the arena…

he saw the son of the man who had once saved his life.

That evening, Marcus brought the letter to Lucius.

The boy read the words slowly.

“My son…”

“Never believe that kindness is weakness.”

“The strongest hearts are not those that destroy…”

“They are those that choose mercy when they have the power to hurt.”

Lucius’s eyes filled with tears.

For the first time, he understood why Nero had protected him.

The lion was not only saving him.

He was carrying his father’s final promise.

But before Marcus could say anything else…

the doors exploded open.

Imperial guards entered.

Behind them stood Emperor Cassian.

“You know too much,” the emperor said.

Marcus stepped forward.

“You cannot erase the truth forever.”

Cassian smiled coldly.

“History belongs to whoever survives.”

Then he pointed at Nero.

“Tomorrow, both the boy and the beast will die.”

But this time…

May you like

the emperor made one mistake.

He forgot that Rome was watching.
