Chapter 2: The Woman Who Refused to Freeze

The cold attacked every breath.

Within minutes, frost spread across the steel walls, and a thin layer of ice crept over my shoes. My fingers had already gone numb, but panic would kill me faster than the temperature ever could.

Ethan knew that.

He had planned everything.

He had waited until every employee had gone home, disabled the emergency alarm outside the freezer, and locked the reinforced door with his executive security code. By morning, they would find my body.

A tragic accident.

The grieving husband.

The successful CEO.

The sole owner of Moretti Biotech.

It would have been perfect.

Except for one mistake.

He had forgotten that I designed this building.

Every camera.

Every server.

Every backup system.

Three months earlier, after discovering his affair with our Chief Financial Officer, Victoria Hayes, I had quietly begun preparing for the day Ethan decided divorce wasn't profitable enough.

Hidden cameras overlooked every executive office.

Audio recorders were buried inside conference rooms.

Encrypted copies uploaded themselves every hour to a cloud server controlled only by me.

The phone in my frozen hand wasn't searching for help.

It was finishing its upload.

The progress bar crawled forward.

89%...

A violent shiver shook my body.

93%...

My vision blurred.

97%...

Then—

Upload Complete.

At the exact same second, Ethan stepped into his luxury penthouse across town.

He poured himself a glass of twenty-year-old Scotch.

Victoria wrapped her arms around him from behind.

"So..." she smiled. "Is it finally ours?"

Ethan raised his glass.

"By tomorrow morning," he said.

"Everything."
