Chapter 1: The Girl Who Broke the Ice

For years, Lucas Moretti had been known as a man without a heart.

The world whispered his name with fear.

Businessmen lowered their voices when he entered a room.

Enemies disappeared before they could become threats.

And everyone knew one thing about Lucas Moretti…

The man who once wanted to leave the darkness behind had become the darkest thing in it.

But nobody knew why.

Nobody knew about Isabella.

Nobody knew about Daniel.

Nobody knew that every night, Lucas still woke up reaching for a woman who would never answer again.

Until the night he found Lily Carter.

The rain was falling heavily over the city.

Lucas had just finished a meeting with men who once worked under Victor Romano. The empire was still alive, but Lucas no longer felt powerful.

He felt empty.

As his black car passed through a quiet street, something caught his attention.

A small figure lying near an abandoned building.

“Stop.”

The driver immediately stepped on the brakes.

Lucas stepped out into the rain.

At first, he thought it was just another person needing help.

Something he had learned not to care about.

But then he heard it.

A weak breath.

A child.

A little girl curled up on the cold pavement, holding a small stuffed animal with torn ears.

Lucas froze.

For a moment, he saw Isabella.

Not in her face.

But in the way the child was desperately trying to be brave.

He crouched down.

“Hey.”

The girl slowly opened her eyes.

They were terrified.

But strangely familiar.

“Please…” she whispered.

Lucas looked around.

“No one is coming for you?”

The girl shook her head.

“My dad said I was a problem…”

Those words hit him harder than he expected.

Because he remembered another child.

Daniel.

His son, who had once held his finger with a tiny hand and believed his father could fix anything.

Lucas looked away.

He hated that his heart was reacting.

He hated that this stranger was making him feel something.

“What's your name?”

The girl hesitated.

“Lily.”

Lucas removed his coat and wrapped it around her.

“I'm Lucas.”

The girl looked at him carefully.

“Are you a bad man?”

The question was so innocent that Lucas almost smiled.

Almost.

“Why do you ask?”

“Because people are afraid of you.”

Lucas looked into the distance.

“They have reasons.”

Lily studied him for a moment.

Then she quietly said:

“I don't think you're bad.”

Lucas looked back at her.

“Why?”

“Because bad people don't stop when they see someone hurting.”

For the first time in years…

Lucas Moretti had no answer.

The next morning, Lucas discovered Lily had no family.

Her father had abandoned her.

Her mother had disappeared years earlier.

The system had failed her.

Normally, Lucas would have walked away.

But something stopped him.

Maybe it was guilt.

Maybe it was fate.

Maybe it was Isabella.

He brought Lily to his mansion.

The same mansion where Isabella once laughed.

The same halls where Daniel once ran.

And for the first time in years…

The house wasn't silent.

Lily walked around carefully.

“This place is huge.”

Lucas nodded.

“It used to be louder.”

The girl looked at him.

“What happened?”

Lucas turned away.

“Everything.”

That night, Lucas found something on the table.

A drawing.

Lily had drawn three people.

A man.

A woman.

A little boy.

Lucas stared at it.

“Who are they?”

Lily shrugged.

“I don't know. I just felt like drawing them.”

Lucas's hand slowly trembled.

Because the little boy had the same smile as Daniel.

And the woman had Isabella's eyes.

For the first time since the fire…

May you like

Lucas wondered if maybe his family wasn't the only thing he had lost.

Maybe he had lost himself too.
