đŸ”„ HE GRABBED THE WRONG OLD WOMAN—THEN THE MAN BEHIND HIM REVEALED WHO SHE REALLY WAS

Briggs felt every pair of eyes in the lobby settle on him.

Watching.

Judging.

Waiting to see what he would do next.

And Briggs hated being judged.

Especially by a stranger.

Especially by an old woman.

Heat rushed into his face.

His jaw tightened.

"Listen carefully," he growled.

"You don't belong here."

Evelyn didn't flinch.

She remained perfectly calm.

"I wonder," she said quietly, "how many times you've said that to the wrong person."

A nervous silence swept through the lobby.

Several employees stopped walking.

Others lowered their eyes.

Everyone knew Briggs' temper.

Everyone knew how these confrontations usually ended.

Briggs took one step forward.

Then another.

"The true measure of leadership," Evelyn said softly, "is often revealed at the front door."

The words landed like a slap.

A few employees exchanged uneasy glances.

Briggs snapped.

Without warning, he grabbed Evelyn's arm.

Hard.

Gasps echoed across the lobby.

A receptionist shot to her feet.

An engineer dropped his coffee.

Still, Evelyn didn't react.

She simply looked down at the hand gripping her arm.

Then, slowly...

She lifted her eyes.

Not to Briggs.

But to someone standing behind him.

A tall man in a dark overcoat.

The stranger had remained silent the entire time.

Watching.

Waiting.

And the instant he saw Briggs lay a hand on Evelyn...

He started walking forward.
