Chapter 1: The Truth Behind the Missing Years

The ballroom remained silent.

No one moved.

The sound of the broken silver dishes on the marble floor still echoed through the mansion, but nobody cared about the mess anymore.

Everyone was looking at the same scene.

The little boy.

The maid.

The impossible word that had changed everything.

“Mommy.”

The woman in white stared at them as if the entire world had suddenly shifted beneath her feet.

Her name was Victoria Whitmore.

For five years, she had been known as the woman who saved the family.

The perfect wife.

The perfect mother figure.

The woman who stepped into the life of billionaire Alexander Whitmore after the tragic death of his first wife.

And most importantly

The woman who convinced everyone that the boy’s biological mother was gone forever.

But now, the child Victoria had raised was holding onto a maid like she had been the only person he had ever truly needed.

Alexander slowly walked forward.

His face was calm.

Too calm.

“Ethan,” he said quietly.

The little boy looked up but refused to let go of the maid.

“Daddy
”

Alexander looked at the maid.

Her face was wet with tears.

Her hands were shaking as she touched her son’s hair.

For years, he believed she was nothing more than a servant working in his mansion.

But the way she looked at Ethan

A father could recognize a mother’s love.

“What is happening?” Alexander asked.

The maid lowered her eyes.

“My name is Clara Bennett.”

Her voice trembled.

“And Ethan is my son.”

A wave of whispers exploded across the ballroom.

“No
”

“That’s impossible.”

“Victoria said his mother died.”

Alexander turned slowly toward Victoria.

The color disappeared from her face.

“Victoria.”

The single word carried more anger than shouting ever could.

She immediately stepped forward.

“Alexander, don’t listen to her. She’s manipulating this situation. She’s just a maid who wants money.”

Clara flinched.

But before she could respond, Ethan tightened his arms around her.

“She’s not lying.”

Everyone looked at him.

The little boy reached into his pocket and pulled out a small folded paper.

His fingers trembled.

“Mommy told me to keep this.”

Alexander took the paper.

It was old.

Worn.

Carefully protected.

When he opened it, his heart stopped.

Inside was a photograph.

A younger version of Clara.

Holding newborn Ethan.

And standing beside them

Was Alexander himself.

The room became completely silent.

Because Alexander remembered that picture.

It was taken eight years ago.

The night his life changed forever.

The night he was told his newborn son had survived

but his mother had died during childbirth.

His hands began shaking.

“Where did you get this?”

Clara looked at him with tears in her eyes.

“Because I never died.”

Victoria stepped back.

Just one step.

But everyone noticed.

Alexander looked at her.

And for the first time in five years

he saw fear in her eyes.
