CHAPTER 2 — The Secret Buried for Seventeen Years

The letter changed everything.

Richard stood in the vault, reading every word with trembling hands.

The entire bank watched in silence.

Clara’s letter revealed the truth.

The car accident seventeen years ago was not an accident.

Someone had tried to erase the Whitmore family.

Someone who knew the secrets hidden inside the vault.

And the person behind it…

was the one person Richard trusted the most.

His younger brother.

Thomas Whitmore.

Thomas had always lived in Richard’s shadow.

Richard inherited the company.

Richard became the face of the family.

Richard had the perfect life.

Thomas had always hated him for it.

According to Clara’s letter, Thomas discovered that Richard planned to expose illegal financial deals inside the company.

So he created a fake accident.

He paid people to make the world believe Clara and Evelyn were dead.

But Clara survived.

Barely.

Before she disappeared, she managed to save Evelyn.

She spent seventeen years protecting her daughter.

Waiting for the right moment.

Waiting until Evelyn was old enough to return.

Richard’s hands shook.

“My brother…”

The man who had spent seventeen years mourning his wife and daughter realized the truth.

The person standing beside him during his darkest days…

was the person who caused them.

Suddenly, the bank doors opened.

A group of lawyers entered.

Behind them was an older man.

Thomas Whitmore.

He smiled calmly.

“I wondered when this day would come.”

Everyone turned.

Richard looked at his brother with pure disbelief.

“You knew?”

Thomas smiled.

“I knew the vault would open eventually.”

The little girl stepped closer to Richard.

She recognized him.

“You’re the bad man from my mother’s stories.”

Thomas laughed softly.

“Careful, little girl.”

He looked around.

“People believe what powerful people tell them.”

Richard stepped between them.

“You destroyed my family.”

Thomas shrugged.

“I improved it.”

The room erupted in whispers.

Thomas continued.

“You were too emotional. Too weak. You cared about people more than money.”

Then he looked at Evelyn.

“But she was the key.”

Richard’s eyes narrowed.

“What do you mean?”

Thomas smiled.

“The vault wasn’t designed to open for Richard Whitmore.”

Everyone froze.

“It was designed to open for Evelyn.”

The truth hit harder than anything.

The vault had been protecting something only she could access.

A hidden ownership document.

A secret account.

And evidence proving Thomas had stolen billions from the family company.

The little girl had not opened the vault because she was lucky.

She opened it because she was the rightful heir.

Thomas suddenly stepped forward.

“Give me those documents.”

Richard moved in front of Evelyn.

“No.”

For the first time in seventeen years…

he was not afraid.

“You took my daughter from me.”

His voice hardened.

“You will never touch her again.”

Thomas laughed.

“You think a little girl can defeat me?”

The security guard looked at the documents.

Then at Thomas.

“Actually…”

He pressed a button on his radio.

“Everything has been recorded.”

Thomas froze.

The entire bank had cameras.

Every word.

Every confession.

May you like

Every lie.

Recorded.
