Chapter 3 — The Secret My Brother Buried

Ethan Callahan was three years younger than me.

Growing up, everyone believed we were inseparable.

Two brothers.

One family.

One future.

But they didn’t see what happened behind closed doors.

They didn’t see Ethan watching me inherit responsibility.

They didn’t see him smiling when I failed.

They didn’t see the jealousy growing quietly for years.

When our father died, he left the company to me.

Not because I was the oldest.

Because he trusted me.

Ethan never forgave me.

But hatred alone wasn’t enough.

A man doesn’t destroy his brother’s marriage over jealousy.

Not unless there was something else.

Something bigger.

I drove straight from the hospital to Callahan Tower.

My company headquarters.

The building where my name was carved into marble.

The security guards saw me enter and immediately stepped aside.

They knew my expression.

They knew something was wrong.

Inside my private office, I found Ethan waiting.

Sitting behind my desk.

Like he owned it.

He smiled.

“Jack.”

I stared at him.

“You knew.”

The smile disappeared.

“Knew what?”

“That Hannah was pregnant.”

Silence.

A very small silence.

But enough.

Enough for me to know.

“You knew.”

Ethan leaned back.

“You always were too emotional when it came to her.”

My hands slowly closed into fists.

“Why?”

He laughed quietly.

“Why?”

“Yes.”

“Because Hannah was your weakness.”

I stared at him.

“She was my wife.”

“No.”

His eyes hardened.

“She was the reason you were becoming soft.”

That was when I understood.

Ethan didn’t want Hannah dead because of money.

He wanted her gone because she changed me.

May you like

She made me human.

And he hated that.
